Grupo de Monitoreo Independiente de El Salvador
The GMIES is the first national and international independent civil society external monitor. The GMIES was founded in El Salvador in March 1996 as an initiative of civil society to contribute to the economic and social development of the nation, by promoting the social responsibility of business actors and maintaining productive employment under fair labor conditions.
Since 2004, the GMIES has legal status as approved by the Ministry of Interior of El Salvador. Since its early years, it was decided that the main objective GMIES work would be to contribute to the creation and consolidation of jobs with decent working conditions, through the strengthening of compliance with the fundamental rules of human and labor rights.
