{"id":6627,"date":"2015-09-11T16:15:06","date_gmt":"2015-09-11T06:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/?p=6627"},"modified":"2015-09-11T16:25:01","modified_gmt":"2015-09-11T06:25:01","slug":"roundtable-solutions-for-migrant-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/event\/roundtable-solutions-for-migrant-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Roundtable: Solutions for Migrant Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5915 size-full alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Screen-Shot-2015-04-15-at-6.40.36-PM.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-04-15 at 6.40.36 PM\" width=\"218\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Screen-Shot-2015-04-15-at-6.40.36-PM.png 218w, https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Screen-Shot-2015-04-15-at-6.40.36-PM-20x20.png 20w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 218px) 100vw, 218px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Where:<\/strong> Council of Europe, Strasbourg<br \/>\n<strong>When:\u00a0<\/strong>Strasbourg, 30 September from 14.00 to 15.30<\/p>\n<p>Europe is facing\u00a0unprecedented numbers of migrants seeking protection, many of them children.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s being called the &#8216;migrant crisis&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>While everyday more people seek refuge,\u00a0it is estimated\u00a0that <a href=\"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/data\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-cke-saved-href=\"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/data\/\">more than 40,000<\/a> children are detained in Europe every year.<\/p>\n<p>But what are the solutions for children flee from their homes?<\/p>\n<p>The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is holding a Roundtable on alternatives to immigration detention of children.<\/p>\n<p>The roundtable is organised as part of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/website-pace.net\/web\/apce\/children-in-detention\">Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It will explore the application of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which called\u00a0on states to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/endchilddetention.org\/the-issue\/child-rights\/\">expeditiously and completely cease the detention of children on the basis of their immigration status<\/a>\u201d and \u201cadopt alternatives to detention\u00a0that allow children to remain with family members and\/or guardians in non-custodial, community-based contexts while their immigration status is being resolved, consistent with their best interests, and with children\u2019s rights to liberty and family life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The roundtable will also explore the EU\u00a0Reception Conditions Directive (RCD) which obliges member states to not detain a person solely because he or she is an asylum applicant (Art 8.1).
