<\/a><\/p>\n People with personal experiences tell their story about ending child immigration detention.<\/p>\n They will be available for those\u00a0at the Council of Europe to “borrow” for a conversation\u00a0about the impacts of immigration detention on children, and the options available to\u00a0avoid the use of immigration detention.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The experts speaking at this event\u00a0include:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe<\/b> (PACE<\/b>) is made up of 318 parliamentarians from the national parliaments of the Council of Europe’s 47 member states, and is one of two organs\u00a0dedicated to upholding human rights, democracy and the rule of law, and which oversees the European Court of Human Rights<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is a follow-up to\u00a0PACE’s report and resolution<\/a>\u00a0calling for alternatives to immigration detention for children last year.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Doris Fiala has recently been appointed as the General Rapporteur on Ending Immigration Detention of Children<\/a> by the Council of Europe Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nIn a historic commitment, the\u00a0Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe\u00a0is launching the\u00a0Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children.<\/h2>\n
It marks the beginning of two years of work to create practical change in Europe, where it is estimated that more than 40,000 children are detained every year.<\/h3>\n
It will launch on April 20 with\u00a0\u00a0a “living library” event, but these \u201cbooks\u201d are not your usual library books…<\/h3>\n
