#Free The Children Social Action

Hundreds of children will spend tonight locked away in an Australian Immigration detention centre.

However thanks to a unique action in central Melbourne to stand against the detention of children, their voices will not go unheard.

From Thursday 20th – Sunday 23rd November the #FREE THE CHILDREN action was held to increase the public’s awareness about the plight of children in immigration detention.

An art installation symbolising a detention centre contained hundreds of dolls, with each doll representing a child who is currently locked away. The installation was situated on the lawns adjacent to St. Paul’s Cathedral, in Swanston Street, and was open to the public from 9am to 5pm.

Thanks to all our enthusiastic volunteers who supported this action by engaging with passers-by, assisting them to enter the cage and free a doll. Without them this action would not have been possible. There were cards and petitions available for people to sign and send to the Minister for Immigration, calling for all children to be released from detention.

To continue to support the campaign to end the detention of children, sign our petition.
