  • Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers

    Founded in 2011, the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) serves as an informed national voice on refugee law and the human rights of refugees and forced migrants, and promotes just and consistent practices in the treatment of refugees in Canada. CARL carries out its work promoting the human rights of refugees in the courts, before parliamentary committees, in the media, among its membership via bi-annual conferences, and elsewhere in the public sphere. CARL’s membership includes over 300 lawyers, academics and law students from across Canada.

  • Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture

    The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture (CCVT) is a non-profit founded by a group of Toronto doctors, lawyers and social-service professionals, many of whom were associated with Amnesty International. Each year, Canada welcomes more than 20,000 refugees, many of them survivors of torture and war. As Canadians, we all want to see these newcomers integrate successfully. We want them to become productive citizens and good neighbours. For this to happen, they must have the opportunity to heal from their trauma. CCVT is the link to that healing. We provide treatment, tools and support that allow refugees to heal from trauma and become active community members.

    In 1973, the Commission des services juridiques created the Center communautaire juridique de Montréal (CCJM). The mission of the Center: to provide legal aid to residents of the territories of Montreal and Laval, under the Legal Aid Act and the provision of certain other legal services. For more than 40 years, we have been working every day to help and inform citizens about their legal problems. Today, we have 110 lawyers in our ranks, assisted by a team of 129 dedicated and committed individuals.
