Australian Lawyers Alliance

The Australian Lawyers Alliance is a national association of lawyers, academics and other professionals dedicated to protecting and promoting justice, freedom and the rights of the individual.

We promote access to justice and equality before the law for all individuals regardless of their wealth, position, gender, age, race or religious belief.

The Australian Lawyers Alliance started in 1994 as the Australian Plaintiff Lawyers Association, when a small group of personal injury lawyers decided to pool their knowledge and resources to secure better outcomes for their clients: victims of negligence.

The organisation’s founders realised that working collectively would enable them to campaign more effectively for progressive law reform, and to adopt a strategic approach to protecting the rights of ordinary people against the legal tactics of the state and big corporations.

In 2004, we changed our name to reflect our broader vision to advocate for those individuals whose rights had been violated or were at risk of violation, and in advocating for law reform that ensures greater fairness for all.
